An entry using lj-cut
In an effort to make my posts more user-friendly, I'm going to put the boring (to most) stuff in lj-cut tags. Let's see if that helps.
I realize I still don't know enough. For example, I don't know if multiple edits results in an equivalent number of e-mails arriving in my friends' inboxes (not a friendly thing, if so), in fact, I don't really know under what circumstances e-mail is sent or whether there's a good way to know whether it's being sent automatically to a given friend. So I'll hold the edit down to a single one until I know.
Last night Renee missed her rehearsal. She was running a low-grade fever, and had been sleeping most of the previous 36 hours trying to get over the flu (or stress, or whatever), but couldn't summon up the reserves to go. Anyway, while we were debating the situation, we received a call from Angela, who is playing Sandy in the play. She had had a minor accident and would be late to rehearsal as she had to be driven there by her father. She didn't want to drive any more. She's 20 years old, and hit a woman in a crosswalk. She says the cross walk was poorly marked, and she didn't really hit the woman, but rather, when they became aware of each other, the woman attempted to turn back, slipped on the gravel, reached for the essentially motionless fender near her to stabilize herself (thus the contact with the car), and fell anyway.
I think that makes accident number 5 in the past 6 weeks. Prior to this one, Jennifer (our newest employee), while returning from a shopping errand we sent her on, was sideswiped by a semi. She is blind in one eye, but that's not what caused the accident. She and the semi were next to each other moving slowly in traffic, and someone cut in front of the semi, forcing him to move right. He did, and contacted her car, taking out the rear-view mirror (and other unspecified damage). Having both rear-view mirrors is a condition for her to drive due to her limited vision. She's coming to work in a rent-a-car while her car is being repaired.
Of course, I had my accident on June 1st, a minor fender-bender, which nonetheless is causing me great distress as I try to decide whether I want to fight the ticket I was issued. It looks like I will.
Right around that time, Laura, a previous employee, fell down stairs trying to rescue a 2-year-old neighbor boy. She suffered a concussion which prevented her from returning to work. Just before that she was in an accident with her car, but I don't remember the details.
About 6 weeks ago, Mike, who has been covering a lot of hours here while he gets his internet book store up and running, fell asleep driving home, and narrowly missed killing himself. Again, most of the damage was cosmetic, but it could have been much worse as he sideswiped a guardrail at high speed. He was surprisingly philosopical about it, treating it as a warning. He woke up looking at the safety cones and impact shock absorbers at an exit, and had just time to move his car wheels to the right, so he took the exit and scraped the side of his car on the guard rail. If he had hit the shock absorbers head on, he might not be here to tell the story.
Anyway, Barry (the 20-years experience director who is making Roll Model work) says they had a great rehearsal. I look forward to seeing the results this evening. And I WILL drive carefully, I promise you.
More boring stuff about my ideal system that I would develop if I had an ideal development system to do it with.
Only the first cut is filled in; no time, no time, no time...
Later.
